What is a Skin Analysis?

A thorough assessment using the MC10 skin analysis device, which captures high-resolution images of your skin surface and deeper layers. It evaluates hydration, pigmentation, pores, fine lines, texture, and even estimates your skin age while identifying potential causes of your skin concerns. This is followed by a personalised ZO Skin Health consultation, giving expert advice and a tailored treatment plan to address your unique needs and optimise results.

Frequently asked questions

What is the MC10 skin analysis?

The MC10 skin analysis is a non-invasive skin assessment that uses specialised imaging to help evaluate key aspects of your skin’s appearance, such as texture, pores, pigmentation, redness and overall skin quality. It helps us build a clearer picture of your skin concerns and priorities before recommending treatments or skincare.

Is the MC10 skin analysis painful?

No. The assessment is completely painless and does not involve needles, skin contact (beyond positioning), or downtime.

How does the MC10 skin analysis work?

We take a set of standardised facial images using the MC10 device. The system analyses the images to highlight patterns and areas of concern that may be less obvious under normal lighting, supporting a more informed consultation.

What does it assess?

Depending on your skin and the settings used, MC10 may help assess:

  • Skin texture and visible pores
  • Pigmentation and uneven skin tone
  • Redness and visible vascularity
  • Fine lines (appearance-based assessment)
  • Overall skin clarity and “radiance” indicators

(Your results will be discussed in clinic as part of your consultation.)

Can MC10 diagnose skin conditions?

No. MC10 is not a diagnostic medical test and it cannot diagnose skin diseases. It is an aesthetic assessment tool to support skincare and treatment planning. If we have any concerns about a medical skin condition, we will advise you to see your GP or a Dermatologist.

Do I need to prepare for my scan?

For the most useful results, we usually recommend:

  • Arrive with clean skin where possible (or be prepared to cleanse in clinic)
  • Avoid heavy makeup, SPF, or very shiny skincare immediately before the scan
  • Tell us about any recent treatments (peels, lasers, microneedling, injectables)
  • Let us know if you have an active cold sore, infection, or significant irritation
Can I have MC10 skin analysis if I have makeup on?

Light makeup may affect accuracy. For best results we may ask you to remove makeup, SPF, or heavy skincare prior to imaging.

How long does it take?

The scan itself is usually quick, and we’ll talk you through the results as part of your consultation. Allow around 15–30 minutes depending on whether it’s combined with a full skin consultation.

Will I receive a copy of my results?

We can talk you through the results in clinic and, depending on your clinic process, you may receive images or a summary to help track progress over time.

How often should I repeat the scan?

Many clients choose to repeat it:

  • Before starting a new skincare plan or course of treatments
  • Every 8–12 weeks to track changes
  • At review appointments to monitor progress
Can MC10 help choose the right treatments for me?

It supports treatment planning by highlighting patterns (e.g., redness, pigmentation, texture changes). We’ll combine the scan results with your medical history, lifestyle factors, and your goals to recommend options. It’s a tool to guide decisions — not a replacement for a professional consultation.

Is it suitable for all skin tones?

Most imaging systems are designed to work across a range of skin tones, but certain features (for example, redness or pigmentation patterns) can display differently depending on skin tone. We interpret results in context and always prioritise an in-person clinical assessment.

Is my data and imaging kept confidential?

Yes. Your images are treated as confidential clinical information and handled in line with UK data protection standards. We will explain how your images are stored and used (including if they’re used for progress tracking).

Can MC10 show my skin’s “age” or guarantee results?

It can highlight current skin characteristics and areas to improve, but it cannot predict the future or guarantee outcomes. Skin response varies between individuals, and results depend on the right plan, consistency, and skin biology.

Can I have MC10 skin analysis if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes — the scan itself is non-invasive. However, not all treatments or skincare ingredients are suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so we’ll tailor recommendations accordingly.

"Having the MC10 skin analysis was such an eye-opener — it highlighted things I couldn’t see in the mirror, and the results were explained in a really clear, non-judgemental way. I left with a plan that felt tailored to my skin, not a generic sales pitch, and it’s been so helpful for tracking my progress."
