What is Map My Mole?
Keeping an eye on your skin is an important part of maintaining your health and wellbeing. Whether you'd like reassurance about existing moles or simply want to monitor changes over time, Map My Mole provides a fast and convenient professional assessment service.
Using advanced dermoscopy and digital imaging, we capture detailed images of up to three moles or skin lesions during your clinic visit. These are securely reviewed by a consultant dermatologist, with a detailed report returned within 48 hours, giving you confidence and peace of mind.
Frequently asked questions
When should I be worried about a mole?
There is no one look for moles. They may be any colour from skin tone to a range of browns or even black. While most are flat, some are raised and soft to the touch. However, normal moles should be evenly coloured and will have smooth edges – it’s when changes appear that you should be mindful and seek a professional opinion.
How often should I get my moles checked?
Everyone with moles should regularly conduct self-checks at home. If you have lots of moles you should self check every 6 months.
Why is the early detection of skin cancer important?
The early detection of skin cancer is vital and can reduce the risk of disfigurement through removal, or in more serious cases death. It is therefore very important to get to know your own skin so that you can recognise any signs of change that may be potential skin cancer or pre-cancerous skin lesions.
What happens if the report finds a suspicious mole/lesion?
If a consultant reports the mole is of concern, they will ask the patient to see their GP or a dermatologist. A mole of concern will also trigger a call back for our team, this means we will telephone the patient, to check they have read and understood the report and they know to see a GP/dermatologist.
Do you offer any advice on the removal of Moles/Lesions?
No, Map My Mole does not offer any treatment advice on the removal of moles and lesions. We are an advice service only. Your treatment report will provide an opinion on what the mole or lesion represents, which will also come with treatment recommendations if indicated, but not removal.
Can I use the report to take to my GP?
Yes, when asking for a referral appointment, inform your GP that the lesion has been assessed and you have a report from a UK consultant dermatologist.
